India releases Compendium on Standards for Technical Textiles - Compiled By Exim Rite

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in collaboration with Ministry of Textiles and Bureau of Indian standards has held a second National Seminar on Standards in Technical Textiles that took place on 25 February at Mayfair Banquets Worli, Mumbai. This year’s theme was Role of Standardisation in Health safety and Environment. Zohra

Chatterji , Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, delivered the inaugural speech at the beginning of the event. A compendium on Standards for Technical Textiles was also released at the seminar.

Sujit Gulati, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, A B Joshi, Textiles Commissioner, Shishir Jaipuria, Chairman, FICCI Textiles Committee and Managing Director, Ginni Filaments and Dr A. Didar Singh, Secretary General, FICCI, along with other leading ‘industry captains’ joined the seminar to share their thoughts.

The first technical session focused on Standards on Technical Textiles for Safety & Security, chaired by Shishir Jaipuria. It included a presentation by Umasankar Mahapatra, Head of Technical Marketing & Product Innovation, Arvind, on Standards on Technical Textiles for Work Place Safety.

The session then featured Brig Ranvijay Singh, Controller, CQA (T&C), DGQA, and Arunabh Chowdhury, SQAE (GS), who talked about standards on technical textiles for safety and security of army personnel. The presentation by Lt. Commander Ashutosh Chaturvedi, Deputy Director (Clothing & Victualling), Indian Navy, focused on standards on technical textiles for safety and security of navy personnel.

The session was concluded by J K Gupta, Scientist C, Textiles, BIS, with his talk on the Status of Standards on Protective Textiles.

The second part of the seminar discussed standards on technical textiles for health, hygiene and increasing agricultural productivity. Chaired by Shashi Singh, Executive Director, Indian Technical Textile Association, the session started with a presentation by Hospital/ CGHS, and went on to the topic of Standards required for Medical Textiles for Health & Hygiene in Hospitals, presented by Arnab Samanta, Manager, Production & Process, Ahlstrom Fibercomposites India.

The presentation by Prabhakar Rai, Scientist E & Head Textiles, BIS, introduced the topic of Status of Standards on Medical Textiles.
The standards on agrotextiles for better agricultural productivity were later discussed by Presentation by Dr G Basu, Head- Mechanical Processing Division, National Institute for Research on Jute & Allied Fibre Technology, and J K Gupta.

The final session on standards for increasing efficiency of roads and highways was chaired by A B Joshi and included presentations on geotextiles by experts like D O Tawade, Chief General Manager, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Manoj Tipnis, Head of Design, Transportation Business, L&T, and Prabhakar Rai.
